The soul of Joan Sharon Petersen transitioned from a long, adventurous, and joy-filled life to the hearts and memories of her family, loved ones, and friends on March 7th, 2024.
Joan was born November 1st, 1950, in Euclid, Ohio to the late John L. and Jean C. Petersen. She is survived by her husband and love of her life, Mark Sims.
She is preceded in death by brother, James Petersen, and stepson, Adam Sims. Joan is also survived by stepdaughter, Kelly (Sims) Horter, her siblings, John M. (& Kerry), Jack B. and Jill K. Petersen, and grandchildren, Julia, Owen, and Lili Horter. As well as her beloved nieces, nephews, and the entire Sims and Petersen families.
Joan received her Bachelor's and Master’s degrees from John Carroll University where she worked for years in the Bursar's Office. Throughout her life, she worked in and managed multiple aspects within the food service industry. She experienced exceeding joy through the growth and achievements of her grandchildren, along with the success of Kelly’s Cafe.
Joan enjoyed raising her dogs, outdoor activities like fishing and boating, as well as traveling with friends and family. Her favorite day-to-day hobbies included reading, completing puzzles, attending fitness classes, and playing gin rummy tournaments with her husband (which she was winning by six games).
Out of respect for Joan’s wishes, there will not be any services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make any memorial contributions to the charity of your choosing.
