John "Earl" Waltz

John “Earl” Earl Waltz joined previously departed family and friends on Cloud 34 on January 31, 2020. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Nosek- McCreery Funeral Home, 8150 Brecksville Rd., Brecksville, OH 44141, with visitation from 9-11 a.m. followed by service at 11 a.m. and a casual reception on site. In Earl's memory please dress comfortably.

The son of John R. and Mildred D. Waltz, Earl was born in Conneaut, Ohio. After graduation from Conneaut Senior High School, he attended Miami University and graduated from there in 1958 after two years service with the U.S. Army in Japan.

He was employed by the JCPenney Company and worked in several cities in Ohio: Hamilton, Elyria, Cleveland, and Cuyahoga Falls. He has been a resident of Brecksville since 1971.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carole and daughter Catherine. He is survived by his sister, Mary Lou Fox of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania; son Philip (Kathy Cisar) of Littleton, Colorado; son Christopher (Courtney) of Elmhurst, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Abigail, Ryan, and Kyle of Elmhurst.

Earl will be leading a hike on Cloud 34 next Tuesday at 10 a.m. Earl was a volunteer with the Cleveland Orchestra Store at Severance and Blossom, delivered Meals on Wheels for Brecksville, and for several years was a volunteer with a New York City Elderhostel. He has been an active member of the Cleveland Hiking club since 1987 and has hiked about 5,000 miles. His first major hike was a climb up Mt. Fuji in Japan in 1955.

In lieu flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 in honor of Catherine and Earl Waltz. The family also thanks Earl’s friends for all of their kind assistance to Dad over the recent years.
